Victoria Point

To celebrate out national holiday, we gathered a small group and decided to go an sample the Hog's Breath Cafe at Victoria Point on the east side of Brisbane. Despite the TV adds for Lamb, we wanted beef and there is nothing un-Austrailian about that - sorry Sam...

The kids were given their own table but seemed a little camera shy so are not on the HOG BLOG.

We brought the tri-pod this time so we could get a slightly more clear shot thanks to the auto time-delay functions...

This is the "Garlic Mushroom" Prime Rib [Standard Size Cut, Medium Rare] with Hogtail Fries, Vegies and the delectable Hoggies' cheese sauce.

Ms_Zane's Dinner
Ms_Zane had the "El Grande" Prime Rib (Standard Cut, Medium Rare), baked potato and salad with everything on the side [this must drive the kitchen "nuts"].

Point to note - Ms_Zane doesn't actually eat the full size steak. She carefully selects the "eye" of the filltet and promptly passes the rest to Mr.Mark who likens it to having a BOSS HOG [33% larger] cut...

Overall a very pleasent night with good service and very tasty meals...

A DESSERT TO DIE FOR

Whilst looking for a photo for a Ms_Zane's scrap layout, I found this - a photo of the aftermath of my dessert from New Years Eve at the Cleverland Hog's Breath Cafe. It is of course the Hog's Breath legendary "Mississippi Mud Cake" and Ice Cream...

Scrappin @ Hoggies!

Well well well, you'll never believe what has happened!!! Last night (I must admit after a few baccardi's) Mark decided that he had an idea for a layout and he wanted to scrap!!! After several hours, many photo prints, some computer lessons, some scrap supply lessons and a bit of journalling this layout is the completed project:

Carindale - West Field Shopping Centre

Whilst researching Hoggies locations on the net [for this blog], we quickly realized that we had not been to the Hog’s Breath Café at Carindale.

A quick phone call got us a table for 7:30PM to fix that!

Once seated, Ms Zane and myself began the night with the usual liquid intake of a glass of red (for Ms Zane) and a Barcardi and coke (for Mark).

Our waiter (or is that waitress?) Neeta came over to take our orders, but as usual, Ms Zane was undecided looking at the various other option in the menu (and the POINTS values of everything).

Regardless of the other pages in the menu there is only one page that means anything – the STEAK page!!!

…and of course, if your still hungry, maybe this might be of interest to you…


We both decided on the same Steak – prime rib with smoked hickory. Ms Zane ordered hers with the hickory on the side, a side salad (with the dressing on the side) and a baked potato (again with the sour cream on the side). I was originally going to have a natural prime rib, but decided to go the hickory as well (like Ms Zane, I ordered that on the side) with mash and veggies.

Our meals had a slight delay due to a rather busy (for a Tuesday) night in the kitchen, but our waitress “Neeta" came over to advise us of the delay and inquire if everything was still OK.

Our meals arrived in good time and how can you go past this?

Naturally during the course of the evening, our friendly waitress “Neeta” came over to inquire about how the meals were, and even snapped this photo for us – thanks Neeta!

Overall the atmosphere, service and (of course) the meal was everything we would expect from a Hog’s Breath Café, and we will be back to this one for sure…

Also we have to take a minute to wish lovely Neeta well with her new enterprises as we were sad to hear that she has resigned from Hog's Breath to start working at a pharmacy closer to home! All the best!

Townsville - Flinders Street


On a recent trip up north, we decided to check out yet another Hog's Breath Cafe, this time Flinders Street, Townsville.

But what to choose?

I don't know why there is even more than one page to the menu - like the "matrix" website, the password is here is STEAK and you just can't go wrong with a Hog's Breath, slow cooked (18 hours) delicious medium rare cut of Grain Fed Prime Beef...

During the course of the day however, the service was not quite up to our expectations starting with James (our very polite waiter) completely forgetting our drinks order. Then when selecting what we wanted we were told that even though the menu does not specify this - you cannot order mash or baked potato at lunch, the only option here is hog's tail fries. Finally after a rather long wait of over 35 minutes (and there was just 6 people in the restaurant all of whom had been served their meals either prior to or just after we ordered) we were served our lunches. Unfortunately after the first bite we realised that our chips were cold.

A little bit frustrated we called over the manager and explained (politely as possible of course) that we had been waiting quite some time and that we were not happy to have cold chewy chips (we thought we'd best leave it unsaid about the forgotten drinks since James was great and grabbed them straight away after a reminder)! The manager Sandy explained that James was the new "trainee" and apologised humbly for a extended time delay that resulted in cold fries. This was remedied quickly with a fresh new plate of steaming hot "hog tails" straight out of the fryer :) I have to say here though, that we did not feel that it was James' fault that the chips were cold being that he wasn't working in the kitchen at all!

All in all Mark gives this Hog's Breath a 3.5 out of 5. Zane being a bit more fussy gives a 3 out of 5.

"You've Got Hog's Breath"

Hog's Breath Cafe at Airlie Beach, Queensland


"The best a steak can get" - They're signature says it all.

They're 18 hour steaks most certainly are the Best, and both Ms Zane and myself will travel far for such a steak, so the purpose of this blog is to share our Hog's Breath Cafe experiences with you all...

Whilst Ms Zane has only been going to Hog's Breath Cafe since 2005, I've had "Hog's Breath" since 1994 and today we are both card carying "frequent dinners". Until this week Ms Zane's "Hog's Breath" experiences covered restaurants from Brisbane to Airlie Beach including; Loganholme, Indooroopilly, Brisbane, Cleveland, Caloundra (the BEST yet), Airlie Beach and as of last Friday we have gone further out to add Flinder's Street in Townsville to the list!

Our most memorible visit was for our FIRST fantastic New Years Eve together (2005) in Airlie Beach - home of the very first Hoggs Breath Cafe :) This year we enjoyed the Hog's Breath at Cleveland for our New Years Eve experience, initiating Zane's 72 year old Grandmother and 80 year old Grandfather to the Hoggies experience!

PS. In the picture above you can also see Jamaica Joe's - we ate there too as it was started by the same man as Hog's Breath, but nothing can tear us away from a good steak!!
